Biondo y Caggiano took the fast lane and stayed on top

The Saturday practice sessions at the Roberto Mouras circuit in La Plata left the same names at the head of both divisions. The gaps were tight, but the warning is clear: the qualifying session can still shuffle the order.

Biondo y Caggiano took the fast lane and stayed on top

I heard the Saturday session at the Autódromo Roberto Mouras in La Plata and the first thing that came through was a familiar soundtrack: the same two drivers at the front, just as on Friday. Nicolás Biondo in the top division, Ronnie Caggiano in the other. The grid is shaping up with remarkable consistency, but qualifying is where the surprise could still slip in.

Biondo, razor-close in the top division

Biondo, the nickname for the leader of the Dodge from Guarnaccia Motorsport, posted 1m37s411. Gastón Rossi, the champion, finished just 91 thousandths behind, also in a Dodge. The margin is so small that a single tow or a small mechanical change could be enough to reverse the picture.

Leonardo Nowak, driving a Chevrolet, completed the podium 95 thousandths off the best time. Oscar Sánchez was fourth with a Ford, followed by Alan Guevara, Emanuel Pérez Bravo, Germán Pietranera, Juan Farabello and Ramiro Dailoff. Fabrizio Maggini closed the top ten.

Caggiano, another weekend at the top

In the other division, Caggiano led both Saturday sessions and confirmed the dominance he showed on Friday. His best mark with the Dodge of José C. Paz Racing, shared with Carli Bava, was 1m41s692. Joaquín Pasquale was 235 thousandths behind in a Chevrolet, while Germán Pietranera, in a Ford alongside Roque Caggiano, was 414 thousandths off.

The rest of the top ten was made up of Santiago Pasquale, Ariel García, Mario Andreoli, Gabriel Villalba, Santiago Florio, Francisco Florio and Francisco Tamagno. The qualifying session was scheduled for 2:07 pm on Saturday.

My reading is simple: nobody should take the Saturday timesheet as a verdict. The humidity and the heat of La Plata are extra players, the gaps are minimal and the track rewards those willing to push at the right moment. The next date is the Saturday qualifying session, at the Autódromo Roberto Mouras. There, we will see who can pull the upset and change the order of the weekend.
